Updated: Aug 31, 2018
Philip Garner, is the founder of Garner's Garden. Based in the Washington, DC, Garner's Garden is the first American #blackowned business to manufacture and produce a line of toothpaste and antibacterial mouthwash. Garner's oral care products are fluoride-free, and use only all-natural ingredients such as organic neem, tea tree oil, and peppermint oil.
The early days
The journey to a more natural oral product line began in 2011 when Mr. Garner decided to adopt a more healthy life style by moving to a plant-based diet. Mr. Garner is an avid believer in the notion that what we put in our body is just as important as what we put on our body. As many successful entrepreneurs will tell you, Mr. Garner practiced deep meditation where his his life's work was revealed in a dream; his purpose was to “Heal the world.”
Looking back on how his grandmother used olive oil for her hands, Garner's first idea was to create an all-natural skin care product line. After product testing his products with friends and family, he began selling them at local farmers markets throughout the DC area. After achieving some success, Mr. Garner expanded his product line with hair care, face care, and oral care.
Turning the corner
After 2 years of street hustling his products at the local farmers markets; Garner launched his e commerce site www.garnersgarden.com in 2015. The first year was a rough one netting roughly $3,000 in sales. Undaunted, Garner stuck with it and it's a good thing he did. Through word of mouth and direct marketing, Garner’s Garden had achieved over $65,000 in revenue revenue in 2016. 2017 would prove to be a banner yeat with sales reaching $225,000.00. Working from his basement and using direct marketing techniques combined with word of mouth, Garner is set to move his operation to his first official warehouse location.
Today Garner's Garden produces over 1,000 bottles per day.
Garner places the majority of the company's focus on it's oral care products, Production has sky rocketed from 200 bottles of mouthwash a day to 1,200 bottles; never compromising the integrity of products and holding true to his purpose to "heal the world".
"Garner’s Garden is committed to healing the world, one customer at a time," says Garner.
